Consumable & Plasticware

  • Consumables:
    • Used once and then discarded. 
    • Examples: pipette tips, filter paper, gloves, certain types of plates. 
    • Often made from plastic, but not always. 
  • Plasticware:
    • Laboratory equipment made from plastic material. 
    • Can be reusable or disposable depending on the application. 
    • Advantages: lightweight, less prone to breakage, cost-effective. 
    • Common plastic types used in labware: polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), polystyrene (PS).
